Happily Ever After - Not

As I get older I can anticipate a little better how things will unfold.  Maybe its cynicism but the reality of our world is more grim than the fairy tales and movies I grew up with.

Happiness it seems is fleeting and ephemeral.  A dream job eventually loses it's novelty and becomes a grind.  The new car or toy gets superseded.  Others discover you secret business model.  Your body gets too old and tired to keep up the sports activities you enjoy.

I have learned that 'Happily ever after' does not exist.  I should instead be grateful with 'For a time things were good.'  I'm also wary of side-effects too.  Obtaining a large wind-fall may result in some time off and the loss of key employment skills.  Buying a large house means more cleaning and maintenance.  Addictive habits will almost certainly hurt me in the long run.  Dangerous sports will cause injuries.

So if things aren't as enjoyable as they once were I'm not surprised.  I'm grateful for what it was and will hopefully move on without any baggage.
